A well respected consultant to the healthcare field, Douglas Peters is the former president and CEO of Jefferson Health System. A multi-hospital system in Philadelphia, Jefferson is comprised of 14 acute care hospitals and two rehabilitation facilities.
Shortly after his retirement in 2001, Peters co-founded ATHS (Advisors to Healthcare Suppliers) to assist start-up companies in gaining access to the healthcare field. Peters also serves on the Board of Directors to HBCS (Hospital Billing & Collection Services), a non-profit company located in New Castle, Delaware; the Advisory Board of MedAssets, an Atlanta-based group purchasing organization focused on hospital and physician revenue cycle and cost management; and the Advisory Board of Alter+Care, a privately held real estate development company located in Chicago.
During the course of Peters’ 35-year health services career he has served in senior and executive positions for numerous organizations. He was president and CEO of Main Line Health, which joined with Thomas Jefferson University to form Jefferson Health System; senior vice president of Blue Cross Blue Shield Association; an administrator of the University of Nebraska Hospital and Clinics; and executive director and president of Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Peters served on the faculties of graduate programs in Health Management at the University of Nebraska’s College of Medicine and the University of Michigan. He also served in the Navy Medical Service Corps during the Vietnam War.
Peters is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives and a life member of the Katahdin Medical and Philosophical Society. He has authored or co-authored more than twenty articles, chapters and essays related to the field of health management.
Mr. Peters received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Ohio State University and a Masters degree in hospital administration from the University of Michigan.
