Bruce Van Cleave, M.D., is the chief medical officer and senior vice president for strategic management at Aurora Health Care where he is responsible for clinical leadership, care managementquality improvement, patient safety, clinical integration, health care transformation, research and clinical innovation. Van Cleave also leads strategic planning for Aurora and oversees the Aurora UW Medical Group and Aurora’s participation in the Center for Urban Population Health.

Previously, Dr. Van Cleave was the president and chief executive officer of Carondelet Health in Kansas City, Mo., part of the Ascension Health system. At Carondelet he instituted a quality management program for the organization’s two hospitals, receiving recognition for top-decile quality performance from the federal government’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Prior to Carondelet, Dr. Van Cleave was executive vice president of clinical and physician services for Trinity Health in Novi, an integrated system with 10,000 physicians and 47 hospitals in seven states.

Dr. Van Cleave is a family physician and a member of the American College of Physician Executives. He earned his Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1973 and his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1977.
