I was in the produce section of my local grocery store, Sendiks, yesterday and paused in front of the pluots and apriums. Pluots! Apriums! I don’t remember these as a kid. Where did these new fruits come from? Why is the my world order always being turned upside?
Well, those of you who follow RPOlosophy know I plagued by two (2) things: an intense curiosity to know a lot of irrelevant stuff, and an obsession with finding RPO relevance in everyday items and situations.
So first, what are pluots and apriums?
• A pluots is a complex cross hybrid of plum and apricot, exhibiting more plum-like traits. The approximate ratio works out at about 70% plum and 30% apricot.
• An apriums is a hybridized fruit which incorporates plum and apricot genetics. Genetically the aprium is about 70% apricot and 30% plum.
With my curiosity satisfied as to the origin of these complex hybrid fruits, I was only left to find the Recruitment Process Outsourcing in these interspecifics.
The answer to my dilemma came during a run around the Klode Park track near my house. As I rounded the northeast end of park overlooking lake Michigan, I became fixated on the word “hybrid” and synonyms began to race through my head. Cross, mixture, amalgam, fusion….
My hypothesis was becoming clear.
RPO is neither a plum nor apricot; instead, RPO, at it best, is a like a pluot or aprium; a hybrid of recruitment services that reflects the distinct and customized needs of a specific client.
Sometimes a RPO solution can be more like the pluot and sometimes it can be more like an aprium. There are even times when it starts as one hybrid model and migrates to another and then back again. It just depends on what is needed.
Also, I like to see RPO as a hybrid. It fits with my much large view of the world; which is: nothing is black and white other than black and white. I believe the world is gray, however, and fortunately, not one consistant monotonous gray….instead there are lots of shades of gray from dark to light. Or in keeping in theme, I see the world as pluots and apriums with a smattering of plumcots (50% plum and 50% apricot).
