My father-in-law is in the bacon business (Nueske Meats); however, he has no connection to Kevin Bacon or my previous blog, RPO is like Kevin Bacon.

What my father-in-law does have is lots and lots of trade magazines. He has magazines solely dedicated to meat and smoked meat. He has magazines with a spotlight on the restaurant industry and some others that just focus on food advertising and marketing.

The Kevin Bacon Game

So on July 2nd as I sat at my in-laws cottage waiting for the sun to come out, I decided to read a few of his trade periodicals. Actually, I am a firm believer that reading outside of your specific industry is a valuable and useful exercise. As the actor, Will Smith said “the keys to life…are reading and running.”  FYI – Will Smith has a Bacon number of 2 in the Kevin Bacon Game (see illustration on right).

As I was reading through one industry magazine, this article title caught my attention:

“Forget Twitter; Your Best Marketing Tool Is the Humble Product Review”

I agree that a product review is great for marketing; however combining social media with product reviews will create exponential marketing opportunities.

If you have a great applewood smoked bacon product review (in print) then why not get it on Twitter and Facebook too. For example, @BestFoodBlogEvr has almost 3,000 followers on Twitter plus a website and blog.

Using social media to expand you marketing and sales for RPO or bacon is well worth the incremental effort. Social media tools are both essential and complimentary to a great marketing program.
