Here’s a way we relieve the stresses of being in the RPO world and keep our perspective.

We find a famous philosopher’s quote, then either add the term RPO or replace a word with RPO and make it relevant.

Here’s some recent examples:

“RPO, it is easy to hate and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve; and bad things are very easy to get.” Rene Descartes

“There is no easy formula for determining right or wrong RPO but it is essential to keep the question alive.” Sam Keen

“RPO is not the worst that can happen to men.” Plato

“RPO may be the greatest of all human blessings” Socrates

“There’s more to RPO than just the facts.” Author Unknown

We are always looking for new (and obscure) quotes, so please feel free to add yours. And if it is really good we will send you a prize.

  1. Ria Garcia says:

Outsourcing will really take awhile before really becoming accepted by other nations.

  2. There is no doubt that recruitment outsourcing (or indeed, outsourcing of any kind) has and will continue to move at a slower pace in most countries outside North America. This has little to do with differing business models or commercial rationale. Instead, the greatest obstacle to outsourcing remains cultural objections to “loosing control” over what is perceived as business critial functions. Overcoming this requires a mindet change which could take decades. However, there is now clear evidence that HR outsourcing and RPO in particular is growing at an exponential rate across western Europe and Asia Pac. I believe there are two main reasons for this, 1) the benefits are utterly compelling and, 2) globalisation is driving some of this into regions previously able to opt out. Our task is to demonstrate to customers that we transfer knowledge and expertise into their organisations via RPO, rathen than taking away capability and leaving them exposed and vulnerable. Perhaps as an industry we should think about a new way of articulating what we do to avoid classic negative reactions to the RPO tag?
